For all its stringent form this show is highly physical. Four women dancers – or should we speak of contortionists who twist, tie themselves into knots, repel and attract each other to a suggestive blend of music from contemporary musicians and Bach. Pona’s themes – life in post-communist Russia, national features in a globalised world, ingrained behaviour and emancipation – are only the starting point in the show. The winner of the Spirit of Dance Award and her global touring company invite us to embark on a journey beyond our everyday horizon, indicating a promise of boundlessness.
