Deep Time

Choreography: Virpi Pahkinen

With her latest creation DEEP TIME, Virpi Pahkinen and her ensemble go on a dive into the infinite depths of time. The hourglass measures seven seconds and centuries. DEEP TIME moves in the archaeology of dance and music. From Hildegard von Bingen's unanimous “Ave Maria” from the 12th century, sung live by the soprano Tua Dominique, to the melancholic sounds of bronze horns to shimmering marimba sounds, in which sonar calls of bats are integrated. The dancers take the form of animals from prehistoric times: Mermaids turn into riding lizards, paper angels into bionic birds. Virpi Pahkinen's choreography offers a kind of "underwater humour" and a mind-expanding calm.
