The Arts under attack
In countries all over the world the arts are under attack by authoritarian leaderships. Just to give a few very recent examples: The Hungarian president Viktor Orbán wants to tighten the control over theatres and wants the government to appoint theatre directors. In the US, the Trump administration proposed a national budget that includes the elimination of the National Endowment for the Arts, which operates with a budget of about $150 million a year. In Belgium, the Flemish government decided to cut funding for cultural projects by 60%. These are only a few examples of how the arts are under attack by authoritarian leaderships. Please share your experiences with your colleagues here as well as actions against these attacks. We would greatly appreciate any ideas to organise a T-Talk tackling this issue.
