killjoy

Choreography: caner teker

In the performance killjoy, caner teker explores mourning through the figure of “Moira,” a professional mourner, who takes on and expresses the grieving process of others as a form of intimate service. In collaboration with the performer Élie Autin and the sound artist Nazanin Noori, an atmosphere will be generated in which the complexity of grief can be experienced, witnessed and shared. The project draws on caner teker’s personal history as a German-Turkish person and their memories of ritual Islamic farewells. By breaking down spatial hierarchies between the audience and the performers and queering mourning traditions, caner strives to give different facets their place.
