Reimagine contemporaneity in curatorial and artistic practices
Each Talk & Connect day begins with a keynote introducing the day’s topic. This is followed by a participatory exchange in the form of a Fishbowl discussion.
The Keynote will be translated into Internationale Sign Language.
The keynote will critically examine curatorial and artistic practices in contemporary dance from the perspective of the Indonesian Dance Festival (IDF). As the IDF continues its 34-year legacy under new leadership, new questions arise. The keynote will address how new generational perspectives shape the pathways established by past generations, highlighting the interplay between tradition and innovation. This shift in leadership brings a renewed focus on contemporaneity, examining how the festival can continue to evolve and adapt in today's cultural landscape.
The keynote will reflect on the predominance of Western-based practices and emphasize the importance of discovering and honoring the authenticity of Indonesian, Asian, and Global South practices and knowledge. This examination will also address the broader context of decolonizing mentalities and practices, challenging conventional norms, and embracing diverse cultural narratives.
