Hmadcha (Beyond this World)

Hmadcha (Beyond this World)

Choreography: Taoufiq Izeddiou

Choreographer Taoufiq Izeddiou’s new creation is inspired by the ritual dances and music of the Hmadcha as well as other comparable universes, which seek transcendence and self-transcendence in trance. Breath is the core source of the practice of the Hmadcha, a brotherhood born at the end of the 17th century in Morocco. The quest for transcendence guided Izeddiou’s reflection at the creation of Hmadcha (Beyond this World) in 2020. He confronts himself with our world in crisis, our new ways of encounter, our solitudes, our intimacies. Diving into tradition to talk about the present, he wishes to emerge from the crisis in a rich and intense collective movement.
