Choreography: Nataša Živković

The performances of choreographer Nataša Živković are centred around the questions of intimacy, family bonds, gender, and gender differences. In her work Sonny she attempts to do anthropological research in a performative form. Drawing on images and stories of the sworn virgins or so called “virginas” from the remote regions of Montenegro, Albania, Kosovo and Metohija, Živković constructs and imagines another body. Throughout the piece, her own corporeality keeps transforming and developing its visual potential as a “hermaphroditic” body. Blurring the distinction of gender, the body creates at the same time a being that does not adapt to external conventions but wants to construct its own nature. It is about emancipating oneself from traditions and ideologies constructed by and for men.
