Shortcuts to Familiar Places

Choreography: James Batchelor

In his new solo Shortcuts to Familiar Places, James Batchelor explores the body as a site of inscription. The work explores the gestures, forms and patterns that persist over time. Probing the traces and archives that remain in the body or across multiple bodies reveals a constellation of intergenerational choreographies. This research focuses on the lineage of James Batchelor’s dance teacher Ruth Osborne, who was trained in the methods of Gertrud Bodenwieser, a key figure of the Ausdruckstanz movement in Vienna.
