The Blunt Blades of Bravado

Choreography: Lorin Sookool

The Blunt Blades of Bravado, inspired by a 2015 newspaper article entitled "Coloured Bravado", is a multimedia contemporary dance performance investigating aspects of sub-street culture formed in response to a deep-seated lack of faith in national governmental systems. The 25-year old South African democratic society still finds itself grappling with racial politics. Understandably so, considering the deep traumas inflicted by the previous government’s Apartheid ideologies. Some of the effects include the continuing struggle of certain communities occupied, in most cases, by people of colour.
