Tao Ye, China’s rising star of the international dance scene, shows two parts of his numbered series. 6 deals with the human spine. A reflection on the primal power of man to “move” as humans. 7 features live vocals from the dancers who seek to voice to motion itself. Both performances are perfect presentations of minimalism. A bizarre and demanding play between lightness and rigour, inside and outside, illusion and reality, which inevitably puts the audience under its hypnotic spell. As abstract and sculptural as the scenery often appears, 6 & 7 allow for a wide variety of associations.
