La Bailarina

Choreography: Paulina Mellado

The poems of Chilean Nobel Prize winner in literature Gabriela Mistral inspired choreographer Paulina Mellado to create La Bailarina. The montage carries a strong and recognizable message of national identity. The dancers, men and women alike, are dressed like Gabriela Mistral, with floor-length skirts and chequered jackets, moving through platforms on different levels. Eight different dancers, eight incarnations of Mistral that show us different facets of the poet in particular and the female body in general. They move between words, connecting dance and poetry, to the rhythm of a compelling musical piece, composed of digital sounds, voices and sounds of wind in the desert.
