Not I

Choreography: Choi Young-hyun

Young-hyun Choi needs nothing more than himself and a life-size doll to translate Samuel Beckett’s stage monologue “Not I” into dance. In Beckett’s play a woman’s mouth articulates moments in an existence consisting solely of broken staccato phrases. Young-hyun Choi’s choreography also centres on questions fuelled by desperation and fears concerning one’s own identity. He presents them to music by Arvo Pärt in a formally stringent dialogue with his artistic counterpoint.
