Isn't it romantic? A couple fill the venerable spaces of the Düsseldorf Art Academy with uncontrolled embraces before taking us through the long corridor on the upper storey to the roof terrace. Düsseldorf lies beneath us, a youthful beauty in the arms of the Rhine. But there’s an astute calculation hidden behind the romantic dance. Its movements visualise the inspiring aura exuded by a venerable place of education, and the accompanying music helps us to perceive it acoustically. For the past 30 years Heidi Duckler’s works have been leading us away from traditional theatre spaces. At the cutting edge of performing arts and architecture she constantly reveals to us the poetry hidden in a bricks-and-mortar environment.
